Sustainable Beauty: Why Racine Loves Working with Davines
At Racine, we believe beauty should uplift—not deplete. That’s why we put our trust in Davines. Davines doesn’t just make high-performance haircare — they build sustainability into every bottle, decision, and process.
A Legacy Rooted in Responsibility
Davines started in 1983 as a small family-run research lab and has grown globally, while retaining its commitment to values over scale.
In 2006, Davines began explicitly integrating environmental impact into its product development and operations.
Certified B Corp + Benefit Corporation
Davines became a B Corporation in 2016, meaning it meets rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
In 2019, they also adopted the legal status of a Benefit Corporation, embedding in their by-laws a long-term commitment to serving the planet and community—not just profit.
What “Beauty + Sustainability” Means in Practice
Davines lives its motto “Beauty For You And The Planet” through four pillars of focus: decarbonization, biodiversity, circularity, and water.
Here’s how that shows up:
1. Renewable Energy & Carbon Neutrality
Davines’s production site in Parma runs on 100% renewable energy.
Since 2018, their production site and offices have been carbon neutral, achieved via emissions reduction and compensation through reforestation programs.
They’ve committed to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning with the standards of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
2. Circularity & Packaging Innovation
81% of their paper and cardboard packaging is made from recycled materials.
They offset the CO₂ emissions of every product packaging through their partnership with EthioTrees, making their packaging carbon neutral.
A growing share of their packaging—primary, secondary, tertiary—is made from recycled or bio-based materials.
3. Regenerative Organic Agriculture & Biodiversity
Davines has launched the European Regenerative Organic Center (EROC) in Parma through a partnership with the Rodale Institute. This hub researches and trains in regenerative farming, linking soil health and ingredient quality.
Their “We Sustain Beauty” campaign champions climate action through regenerative organic agriculture — their hair & body wash bar, for example, is 99.7% biodegradable and packaged in recyclable paper, with activist® ingredients grown under regenerative principles.
4. Ethical & Transparent Practices
Davines chooses its business partners based on social and environmental criteria, promoting transparency and accountability.
They publicly release annual Sustainability Reports to share goals and results — not out of regulation, but out of commitment.
Their formulas favor ingredients of natural origin (or modified natural) — about 80% of their ingredients fall into that category.
Importantly, Davines does not test on animals.
